In 2010, after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, H.E.L.P. made a commitment to serve the country of Haiti. Our passion is to stay in the shadows of the community and to equip and enable local leaders to bring change to their communities, and so our first priority was to locate leaders on the ground. God connected us with GREAT Haitian leaders whom we love, trust and desire to form long-term partnerships with, and God has done some amazing things through them in the last year since we first launched the Haiti - We Have Not Forgotten campaign. We have learned a lot and failed often, but we know this: we love Haiti and we are committed to seeing her long-term renewal through key strategies to help end local poverty in Haiti.

Our mission is: To be a global tribe dedicated to ending extreme poverty by helping to rescue orphans, restore their hope and renew their communities.

Help orphans and vulnerable kids escape extreme poverty by providing proper shelter and a loving community that is committed to raising these kids. This is also how we fight human trafficking -- kids that have shelter and community will be less vulnerable in being trafficked.

We consider this our bridge to development. Through our child sponsorship program, we will ensure that every child that is rescued is properly restored by providing for their daily needs. This means proper food, access to health care, clean water and education -- not only for our children, but for their surrounding community as well.

Our hope for our kids in the program is to NOT have their own children sponsored in the next 10-15 years. We want to BREAK the cycle of extreme poverty by empowering these communities to be able to take care of themselves. Every community has their own story, and we desire to listen to them and find ways to help them move themselves forward.

Why homes, you ask? Simple. Our partners on the ground already build homes. So far, they have built over 50 homes for families who've lost their homes in the earthquake. The people of Haiti are desperate for homes as thousands live in tents or makeshift shelters. Every time we build a home we:

  1. Provide jobs as Haitians do the work to build the homes.
  2. Prevent human-trafficking: A child now has a place to call home and a community to watch over and protect them.
  3. Build healthy families.
  4. Restoring their Hope: When we give the key to a home, you can see the tears well-up in the eyes of these families. Most families assumed they would never have access to a home again. I love seeing these families move their belongings from a tent to a home. It's beautiful, it's redemptive, it's justice.

100 Homes Project - Preventive Trafficking

We're partnering with Restore Communities to launch a focused initiative to preventive trafficking on the Haiti/Dominican Republic border. We will build a cluster of homes that will be dedicated to the most vulnerable orphans. These kids are the main target of traffickers. They are alone, abandoned and desperate.

Our goals:

Other ways to get involved: Throw a Garage Sale for a house or donate your birthday.

As we build homes in various targeted communities, we also want these communities to have access to clean water. Every time we fund a water project, this is what happens:

  1. Health: Sickness is reduced tremendously.
  2. Job creation: Each well that is dug creates jobs for Haitians.
  3. Improve education: Children can now spend more time in school, instead of fetching water.
  4. Create Money: Parents can now spend more time working and providing as they don't have to spent hours of fetching water.
  5. Fight trafficking: Kids and parents are together. In Haiti (as well as many other countries), either the children or the parents walk long-distances every day to fetch water, and this can leave the children at higher risk for abduction.

Sponsorship creates a bridge from AID (Rescue) to community development (RENEW). It gives the local leader the ability to focus on big-picture initiatives. Currently in Haiti, there are kids whose parents can only feed them every other day, but with sponsorships we can:

  1. Provide daily needs for kids: (water, food, clothing and shelter)
  2. Send these kids to school.
  3. Help to hire teachers.
  4. Keep families together: In many cases, families drop off their kids at at orphanages because they love them and want them to have shelter, food, and schooling. This is devastating, and we want to prevent this from happening. We believe the best outcome for any child is to keep that child with their family.

Sponsorships for HELP are focused on community development, not a single child. When you sponsor a child, his or her entire community will be blessed and transformed. Of course, we ask that you pray for that child specifically, write letters and help in other ways also.
